Every decade or so a band comes along and redefines conventional pop. Consider One Lone Car that band. The alt-rock quartet from Alton, Illinois combines the passion and melodrama pioneered by groups like The Smiths and Stabbing Westward with tenants of grunge and alt-country – resulting in rich soundscapes punctuated by witty pop hooks with haunting, heartfelt lyrics; an emerging, theatrical sound defined as "pop cabaret."

Dei Plegge (vocals, keys, rhythm guitar), Andy Herrin (percussion), Neal Klein (lead guitar), and Mike Hickey (bass) comprise One Lone Car. The members received a minimum of formal instruction; mostly they're self-taught. Plegge works out melodies and his trademark-clever lyrics at the piano and the remaining members elaborate on the work.

Despite the group's short existence, they've landed shows at prolific rooms such as The Pageant, Mississippi Nights, and Blueberry Hill's Duck Room. Their draw is never static as the group picks up new fans wherever they go. One Lone Car's sonic charisma lent chills to iChannel PD Ken Williams who added the group to the station's playlist; they've ranked among the top five artists on iChannel ever since. The group soon caught the attention of indie rock producers Doug Firley (Gravity Kills) and Chris Loesch (Full System Purge) of Shock City Records. The label signed the group and produced their eight-song album, "Variety Hour," all of which MTV licensed to use on their network. One Lone Car has rocked the stage with opening slots for Gin Blossoms,Wheatus, Flickerstick, Melee,River City High, Gravity Kills, and Mayday Parade.

Elegant, inventive, and soberly introspective, One Lone Car's music is the celebration, the angst, the frenetic frothy-mouthed love song. They embrace the ethos of making music for the love of it which is what distinguishes them from the trend.

"One of my favorite bands is from St.Louis, they're called One Lone Car and they rock!"
-Robin Wilson of the Gin Blossoms
